Stress Less Tips of the Month

Welcome to the Stress Less Tip of the month. Here, you will be the opportunity to learn some quick, easy-to-do mind/body relaxers, reenergizers and rebalancers.

One of the simplest, yet very effective, techniques for releasing stress, is though what is called conscious breathing. Breath is the most vital function of the body. We need it for life. (Just try to stop breathing. Can’t do it, can you!?) Breath is the bridge between the mind and the body. We can use the breath to relax the body and to calm the mind, thus creating a tranquil state for the functioning of our whole bodymind system.

The first breathing technique Thich Nhat Hanh, Zen master and author of The Miracle of Mindfulness, teaches his students is "Breath In and Breath Out" So give it a try!

* Breathe In & Breathe Out

This can be done anytime you need to calm your mind and
relax your body. The more you practice, the more effective it will become. The results are both progressive and cumulative.

(Take a couple of minutes, 2-3 times a day)

Stress- Less Procedure

1.
Take in a deep breath and let it out slowly, like a sigh of relief.
Take in a 2nd deep breath, on the exhale relax the body.
Take in a 3rd deep breath, on the exhale relax the mind.

Now just let yourself breathe easily & rhythmically.

Then mentally start to …
Identify when you are breathing In…
(Say to yourself "I know I am breathing in," on each inhalation)
Identify when you are breathing Out
(Mentally say "I know I’m breathing out," on each exhalation)
Do for several breath cycles or for 1-5 minutes.

Note how your body relaxes and the mind chatter subsides.
Feel how the whole bodymind system rejuvenates itself.
